Cat Breed Distinction

Twenty years after Weirs’ impulse, the situation had changed. The feline world got interested in the Persian race, admired by its beautiful long haired cloak, that at the ends of the XX Century its numbers where four times that of the short haired European cat at the feline exhibitions.

The European had enjoyed of a brief moment of glory and now he had to pass several decades under shadows. Although now a days they have recuperated in a certain way its category, but it hasn’t gotten as near to its old dominant position, in spite of the hard labor of their enthusiastic breeders.

As consequence of the declination of the European an accused shortage of good specimens, necessary to maintain the race, a situation that got more serious by the suspension of the breeding during the second world war. On the other hand, the European bred in the continental Europe, and specially in the Nordic countries, didn’t receive the proper attention and began to evolve in parallel to that of the British, but it wasn’t until the beginning of the eighties that the International Feline Federation acknowledged them as a different race, if well in the Anglo-Saxon countries they are still judged as a same race.

Cares
It is a tame and even phlegmatic cat. He is also a good company animal and he like to play, but also sometimes likes to be left alone with his thoughts.

He doesn’t do acrobatics as, for example, the Siamese, and has a low tone of voice.

Its intelligence is outstanding and, it permits him to adapt easily to the daily life of a home; for example, he doesn’t protect too much when left alone, always that in his life there is a routine and that he may expect its food and company at determined hours.

The hair  doesn’t require many care: if you don’t have to prepare him for an exhibition, it is sufficient to examine and brush the cloak once a week.

The females are easy with birth, although the size of the litters is unpredictable (there can be from four to more whelps).

The whelps are usually healthy and robust, and normally overcome all the illness that they suffer.
